C-MAT students hosted by Flemish Government

Every year, the Government of Flanders grants ten scholarships, to students from all over the world, for a programme or a master's degree at C-MAT. The students were welcomed for a visit at the Flanders Chancellery and Foreign Office.

Esther Henderickx (UA) wins PSA University Award 2024

On May 7, 2024, PSA University presented the 'PSAU award 2024' to Esther Henderickx (25) of the University of Antwerp (UA). Esther managed to convince the jury with her master's thesis 'What is the legal and economic impact of hydrogen as a fuel on the shipping sector from a shipowners perspective?'.

C-MAT and FBE transport students take off in the air

Early May, two groups of C-MAT and FBE transport students took off for a a flight from Antwerp Airport, hosted by Jeugd & Luchtvaart. The flights offered great views of the port of Antwerp and the greater Antwerp region.

TPR presented at NOVIMOVE final conference

At its final conference, NOVIMOVE - smart & sustainable waterways had the pleasure of hosting an informative lunch where stakeholders enjoyed presentations of groundbreaking innovations on topics such as new vessel designs for fluctuating water levels, smart navigation systems and the mobile modular terminal.

Flanders' Secretary-general public works guest lecture

TPR had the pleasure of hosting Filip Boelaert, Secretary-General of Flanders' Mobility and Public Works Department, for a guest lecture on the Flemish mobility policies and policy-making process.

PoAB CEO and customer director guest lecture

TPR had the pleasure of receiving Jacques Vandermeiren and William Demoor of Port of Antwerp-Bruges for a guest lecture to our port economics students at University of Antwerp - Faculty of Business and Economics. They went into the current challenges that a port authority faces, the changed relationships with governments, and the opportunities they can and must grasp.

Ann Verhetsel member of PhD jury Merten Nerfs

On 21 May, Ann Verhetsel was a member of the PhD jury of Merten Nerfs, who successfully defended his thesis on 'the Landscapes of trade: towards sustainable planning for the logistics complex in the Netherlands'.

FBE students enjoy Brussels excursion

On 7 May, students from Faculty of Business and Economics enjoyed an excursion in Brussels, led by Joris Beckers. They visited various neighbourhoods, higlighting the geographical diversity of the city.

C-MAT alumni gathered online

C-MAT held a next alumni online event on 'Disruptions in maritime supplychains: impact on port terminals and hinterland connectivity'. A great panel featured, with Shawn Tureman, Norfolk Southern, Jorge Hernandez, Port Everglades and Indra Vonck, MTBS. View the recordings by clicking right.

TPR co-hosted International Port Strategy course

APEC, Antwerp Management School (CMAT) University of Antwerp, IAPH, and Port of Antwerp-Bruges International co-hosted a hybrid program on International Port Strategy, with a physical closing week live in Antwerp, including academic and sector lectures and port visits.

MLM alumni gather at alumni event

On 7 May, alumni of FBE's Maritiem en Logistiek Management master gathered again on a alumni event, hosted at PSA Antwerp. Four alumni, currently active in diverse segments of the industry, gave testimonials about their current jobs and how the program was useful in preparing their careers.

TPR hosted guest lecture by Jaime Ledda

Lief Bleyen invited His Excellency Jaime Victor Ledda, Ambassador for the Republic of the Philippines, in her Law of the Sea classes at the Faculty of Business and Economics on 23 May, to discuss the South China Sea Arbitration and the recent developments in this region.

TPR PhD's presented at TransportNET PhD Day

TransportNET held its first PhD Day, featuring online presentations by 13 PhD's from the network. This led to sharing interesting insights within the network and setting up in-depth discussions among network partners.

Transport bachelor thesis students presented results

The 3rd year FBE bachelor students in transport had to defend their thesis at Log!Ville. Next to defending their research, the students were also "immersed" in the world of innovations in logistics during a guided tour.

TPR presented research on inland waterway transport developed in NOVIMOVE - smart & sustainable waterways during the session "Spotlight on Research: Planning for Transport Adaptation and Mitigation" at the ITF - International Transport Forum Summit 2024

TPR contributed to Smart Shipping Conference

Within the context of the Belgian Presidency of the Council 2024 the Flemish Ministry of Mobility and Public Works hosted the Smart Shipping Conference. Peter Shobayo contributed with a presentation and a booth on TPR's and University of Antwerp's smart shipping research.

TPR presented PIONEERS results at WMU seminar

On 16-17 May 2024, the World Maritime University hosted the "Maritime Decarbonization by Enabling Key Technology Symbiosis" seminar in Malmö 🇸🇪, focusing on green technologies for sustainable maritime decarbonization. Wouter Schmidt highlighted PIONEERS' innovative technologies and the critical role of ports in the energy transition.
